The soul loves to meditate, for in contact with the Spirit lies its greatest joy. If you meditate deeply, a great peace will come over you, and that peace will be God.

✦  The Sacred Lineage

Our Lineage

Ananda Kriya Ashram was founded in the living spirit of the ancient Kriya Yoga tradition — a precise science of spiritual evolution transmitted in an unbroken lineage from Mahavatar Babaji, the deathless master of the Himalayas, whose timeless presence continues to guide sincere seekers on the path.

Babaji revived and transmitted this sacred kriya to Lahiri Mahasaya in 1861 in Ranikhet, igniting a spiritual renaissance that would reach every corner of the world. Lahiri Mahasaya, a householder yogi of extraordinary realisation, in turn initiated his beloved disciple Swami Sri Yukteswar Giri, whose strict discipline and divine wisdom shaped the great masters who followed.

It was Sri Yukteswar who recognised and prepared Paramahansa Yogananda for his world mission — to carry the liberating fire of Kriya Yoga to the West. Yogananda's Autobiography of a Yogi has since awakened millions to the depth and grace of this path.

Our ashram carries this flame with humility and devotion. Every practice, every retreat, and every act of service here is an offering to the lineage — and an invitation for you to walk this ageless path toward Self-realisation.

Our Teachings

Three pillars of practice — breath, stillness, and service — that together awaken the dormant divinity within every sincere seeker.

प्राणायाम

Kriya Pranayama

The crown jewel of Kriya Yoga — a precise science of breath that accelerates the soul's evolution. Through rhythmic control of prana, the practitioner purifies the subtle body, awakens the dormant kundalini, and draws the mind inward toward the infinite source of Being.

ध्यान

Meditation & Dhyana

Dhyana is the art of stilling the restless mind until only pure awareness remains. In the depths of meditation the seeker transcends thought, time, and ego — touching the ever-present joy that is one's true nature. Regular practice transforms perception and purifies the heart.

सत्संग

Satsang & Seva

The spiritual path is not walked alone. Satsang — communion with truth-seekers — accelerates inner growth through shared study, chanting, and discourse. Seva, selfless service, dissolves the ego and reminds us that every action offered to the Divine is itself a form of worship.
